Why should actors get a headshot?
An actor’s headshot is sometimes their only chance to make a lasting impression. What they bring to a casting audition and leave behind is something that will be a true representation of themselves captured in a photo. It’s what
the casting director needs to remember who gave a good audition.
What advice do you give potential clients when making their decision on who to choose for their headshots?
Choose a photographer based on not only his skill level but also his personality. This is the person that will need to capture you at your best, truly represent your desired end-result in an image.
What advice do you give to people on the day of the photo shoot?
Come to the shoot in an “act as if” mode. Act as if you are in a great mood. Your energy level, your presence,
your acting will determine if the shoot is a success.
What preparation should people do before getting their headshots done?
Get plenty of rest, moisturize your skin, and avoid wearing sunglasses to the shoot. This is a helpful tip for your outdoor photo sessions. It is helpful to have your eyes comfortable in the sunlight so preparing by not wearing sunglasses a day or two prior will ensure that the eyes are not too sensitive to the bright sunlight.
What can an actor expect to receive after the session?
Shortly after the session, an actor can expect to receive all his images sent via email. This can be accomplished through a site called wetransfer.com which allows an ftp download of all their images in their full resolution. Sending images in this way avoids the delay that occurs from mailing cds.
What is the typical cost for a headshot session?
Typically, a headshot session including a makeup artist can be accomplished for under $300. This would be for a one look/outfit session.
How long does the photography session last?
About an hour and a half from start of makeup to completion of shooting.
What advice do you give actors on choosing the right headshot look from the session?
Have your agent assist you in choosing your final image. That way it will be an un-biased decision based on how your agent feels which image best represents you, rather than a decision based on simply a good shot. Choose a photographer you’re comfortable with and one that is willing to spend time with you to accomplish your desired end-result.
